Dead Grass Repair Service (Dog Urine Burn)

Dog urine will drive the nitrogen levels up in soil and can create dead areas of grass or lawn cover. This is caused when a dog urinates in the same spot over and over again. The over abundance of nitrogen kills the lawn in that one spot.

To solve the problem we first need to encourage the dog to urinate in multiple areas so the problem does not continue.

Even if we patch the grass, the dog will continue to urinate in that spot making it impossible for the grass to grow again.

First we will spray the area with either a nitrogen neutralizer or a natural enzyme that will eat the excess nitrates along with a deodorizer so your pet wont find that spot appealing any longer.

Often simple solutions such as vinegar will work to deter your pet from urinating on the same spot however we also have stronger solutions to mask the odor and make the spot completely annoying to your pet keeping them away altogether.

Once we have convinced the dogs to use different spots and allowed the urine neutralizers to work, the area will be washed down with water, raked out and some fresh top soil and grass seed can be left in its place by the Dog Poop Tech.

Note: With so many different types of grass it is important that we do not plant a foreign grass in your lawn. So we have to work with the home owner to make sure the patch is the right match and that they can water it and keep it growing.

We do not charge any extra for this service, but we cannot replant an entire yard either. The service is for small spot repair to replace grass that has been affected by dog urine.

We are also limited in what types of grass we are able to acquire. So if you have something uncommon, we may not have the grass seed available to make the repair and in those cases, we can only make the repair is the correct grass seed is provided by the client.

Why the grass dies in the first place

Typically urine is full of nitrogen and that is actually great for the lawn.

However if that becomes so concentrated it will actually burn the lawn rather than fertilize it. Just like over fertilizing with commercial products will burn or kill the grass so will natural fertilizer.

The best solution for this problem is to use generous amounts of water to displace the nitrogen into a bigger area and not have it all concentrated in one place.

If a dog is urinating in the same place all the time, which is quite common particularly with females, you can either add water each day or try to get them to use multiple spots.

Of course that is easier said than done. If dogs could be trained to use toilets then Mr Dog Poop would be out of business. So asking your dog to urinate in different spots in the yard each time, probably wont work.

We can deodorize the spots, or make them undesirable so they will chose different spots and solve the problem that way.

Sometimes just a little spritz of deodorizer before the grass is dead is all we need to keep the lawn green and luscious.

Other times, we will need to plant new grass.

Whichever the case might be, we will work with you to insure a clean, order free and spot free lawn.

Standard Treatment

If the Dog Poop Tech observes spots on the lawn that might be starting to die, the typical course of action is to spay a deodorizer or repellant on the area to let is heal naturally.

If we notice the issue, we will begin treating the areas on a weekly basis.

If you feel that areas are not being treated or the treatments are not preventing your dog from urinating on the same spots, then please make a note in the online interface so your dog poop tech can address the problem during the next cleanup.

You can leave an item on your lawn as a marker, a rock, a bowl or whatever you have. Make a note that you have place an orange bowl over the area you are concerned about and that way we can treat the specific area without guessing it's location.

It might not be the most sophisticated system of notification and location, but it seems to work much better than giving everyone a Surveyors GPS system and asking you for the exact coordinates of the urine burn spot.
